The primary objective of the industrial visit was to provide students with practical exposure to industrial automation, control systems, and robotics. The session aimed to enhance technical knowledge, demonstrate real-world applications of theoretical concepts, and develop hands-on skills in PLCs, SCADA, HMI, and related automation technologies. It also encouraged teamwork, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of industrial practices.
The IEEE HKN – Nu Eta Chapter of Sri Sairam Engineering College organized an industrial visit on 17th February 2026 at the Axis Global Institute of Industrial Training (AGIIT), Ashok Nagar, Chennai, from 10:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
A group of 15 students along with 2 faculty members participated in the visit. The students gained valuable insights into the functioning and applications of modern industrial automation systems through demonstrations and hands-on training.
The visit commenced with a welcome session by the trainers at AGIIT, followed by an introduction
to industrial automation systems. The sessions included:
1. Overview of PLCs – Working principles, configurations, and applications.
2. Relays and Circuit Protection – NO/NC relays, MCBs, and overload relays.
3. HMI and SCADA Systems – Basics of industrial monitoring and control software.
4. Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) and SMPS – Practical applications and operation.
5. Ladder Programming – Real-world automation logic use cases.
6. Industrial PLCs – Hands-on training with Schneider, Mitsubishi Electric, and Omron PLCs.
7. Robotics – Exposure to Yaskawa Robot and its working and programming.
- Active participation from 15 students across various departments.
- Hands-on sessions in PLC programming, SCADA, HMI, and ladder logic.
- Live demonstrations of industrial automation devices and robotics.
- Exposure to real-time industrial use cases and workflows.
- Expert guidance from experienced trainers on troubleshooting and programming.
- Enhanced understanding of industrial automation and robotics.
- Practical experience in operating and programming PLCs, SCADA, and HMI systems.
- Improved ability to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world industrial problems.
- Increased technical confidence and industrial readiness among students.
- Encouraged curiosity and innovation in automation and robotics domains.
Participants appreciated the hands-on nature of the visit and found the sessions informative, engaging, and well-structured. Students highlighted the real-world exposure to PLCs, SCADA, robotics, and automation systems as highly beneficial in complementing classroom learning.
